Extremely RARE Excavated Texas/Miss Button from a Confederate Campsite at Tupelo, MS...As soon as we aquired this Beautiful Button I began to research as to the recovery area and quickly learned that long-time and legendary Relic Hunter, Willie Smith, from Belmont, MS may know more about the recovery of this Button...I could not get to the phone quick enough to call Mr. Smith...Yes, Mr. Smith confirmed that the Button had indeed been recovered from a Confederate Camp in Tupelo, MS. by Gary Kennedy...He continued to tell me that he and long-time relic Hunter, Conrad Allen along with Gary Kennedy had found the Camp in the mid-1970's...He also stated the Camp was on a fairly large hill over-looking what is now the City of Tupelo...He spoke of the many great finds that the Trio recovered...such as (3)three C.S. Oval Waist Belt Plates, (1) Forked Tongue Buckle, A Tenn. Button and several Louisiana Buttons just to name a few...I would like to Thank Mr. Smith for his knowledge and great stories of Relic Hunting in the Good Ole Days...Now back to the Button, It is around 21mm...has Golden Brown Patina on both the Front and Back...The face features a Five-Pointed Star with an outward "I" inside the Star...The back is flat with no backmark...This Button has been in a local Collection for many years it has some red felt attached to the back from laying in a display case for so many years...A very Solid and VERY RARE Button of Texas/Miss...More information will be provided to the buyer upon request. |
