BP214 "Published in 2 Books"...Super nice excavated Confederate South Carolina State Waist Belt Plate. Nice cinnamon toned patina on face and reverse with visible solder marks. This very Plate is the one pictured in...Excavated Artifacts From Battlefields and Campsites of the Civil War 1861-1865 by Stanley S. Phillips, Pg. 28, No. 4 and Will Gavin's Accouterment Plates North & South 1861-1865, 2nd edition, pg.277. Many of these Plates have a noticable wedge shaped flaw in the top of the Palmetto Tree and this one is no different. Experts explain this to be due to a crack in the mold that continued to be used.
